About The Position

The RN Evening RN Supervisor is responsible for supervising, providing, and coordinating nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures. This role involves assessing resident care needs and taking appropriate action to ensure high-quality care and adherence to established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, provide, and coordinate nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Assess resident care needs and take appropriate action.
  • Follow established standards of nursing practices and implement facility policies and procedures.
  • Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants, restorative nursing assistants, residents, families, and physicians.
  • Supervise and evaluate all direct resident care, initiating corrective action as needed.
  • Obtain report from the nurse being relieved and record sufficient information for follow-up.
  • Provide report to the nurse coming on duty with sufficient information for follow-up.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure adequate staffing to meet resident needs.
  • Conduct resident rounds, reporting problems to the nursing supervisor and initiating corrective action.
  • Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
  • Identify resident problems and emergency situations and initiate emergency care and life-saving measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Follow, supervise, and evaluate the implementation of the Resident Rights Program.
  • Participate in facility education and in-service programs.
  • Provide supervision to Nursing Assistants providing direct resident care and provide resident care as necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, rehabilitation meetings, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Follow staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according to staff qualifications and resident population characteristics.
  • Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within the assigned unit.
  • Counsel Nursing Assistants and recommend disciplinary action to the Director of Nursing as necessary.
  • Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of Nursing Assistants.
  • Provide instruction for appropriate nursing care to licensed nurses and Nursing Assistants.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of residents as assigned and document these assessments.
  • Develop and implement an accurate comprehensive care plan based on each resident's needs and their comprehensive assessment.
  • Promptly report changes in resident conditions to the physician, Director of Nursing, and responsible party, taking follow-up action as necessary.
  • Follow facility admission procedures and communicate resident admission to other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers.
  • Competently perform nursing tasks.
  • Follow facility discharge/transfer procedure and coordinate discharge/transfer with other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers.
  • Complete documentation related to the resident's discharge/transfer.
  • Supervise response to resident's call for assistance.
  • Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to the Nursing Supervisor.
  • Count narcotics, check emergency kit, and exchange keys.
  • Check meal trays and nourishment to ensure proper diet is served and residents are assisted as necessary.
  • Supervise the application and removal of all restraints and devices used to position and enable residents to function as independently as possible.
  • Order, receive, and store medications appropriately.
  • Notify physician, when necessary, of changes in resident conditions, weight, medication errors, medication not available, abnormal laboratory/X-Ray results, and any other unusual observations.
  • Record resident progress notes as required.
  • Record daily notes on unstable residents, Medicare residents, and recently admitted residents.
  • Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers.
  • Obtain continuing education required to maintain licensure.
  • Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
  • Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Report for work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
  • Report for work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employee handbook.
  • Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely, and professional manner.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Follow Resident Rights policies at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Consistently work cooperatively with residents, residents' representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants, and ancillary service providers.
  • Ensure that feeding assistants are adequately supervised.
  • Periodically review the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc., and make recommendations for revisions as needed.
  • Meet with assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts' services, programs, activities, and changes in routine or policies.
  • Agree not to disclose assigned user ID and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations.
  • Agree not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations.
  • Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
  • Notify the Nurse Supervisor of all drug and narcotic discrepancies.
  • Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be, on the shift in which they occur.
  • Ensure that department computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected screen saver activates within established facility policy guidelines.
  • Ensure that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely manner in accordance with state, federal, and facility policies, and record all care provided.
  • Assist visiting physicians with rounds.
  • Draw blood and obtain fluids for lab work as directed.
  • Report suspected resident abuse immediately to the Administrator.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility's information system.
  • Communicate with resident families/representatives regarding the status of the resident.
