Under the general supervision of the Director and Clinical Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing quality patient care using the nursing process, directing other nursing staff, and managing the operations of an assigned unit during their shift. This role may require the employee to be on call and work overtime as needed by the hospital. The RN performs initial patient assessments, develops and updates care plans, and collaborates with other shifts and departments to ensure continuity of care. They are responsible for documenting patient care, monitoring the documentation of other personnel, and coordinating bedside care. The RN administers or supervises the administration of medications and intravenous fluids, informs physicians of patient status, and assists with treatments and examinations. They also supervise patient care provided by nursing personnel, evaluate care standards, make assignments based on patient acuity and staff competency, and verify order transcription. Communication with patients, families, and other disciplines is key for emotional support, teaching, and discharge planning. The RN checks emergency equipment and drugs, acts as a primary caregiver, team leader, or charge nurse, and assists in orienting new personnel. They communicate information to other shifts and departments and provide assistance to external agencies as needed. Additionally, the RN ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
