About The Position

As an ER Nurse at CHI Saint Joseph Health, you will be the first point of contact for individuals in our community experiencing health emergencies. The role involves a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. You will act as a multitasker, capable of rapid prioritization of patients based on medical necessity and performing emergency triage. Collaborating with an experienced clinical team, you will provide stabilizing care, including IV starts, foley catheter insertions, and assisting providers with chest tube insertions. Success in this role requires teamwork, professionalism, critical thinking, and a proactive approach to patient experience initiatives. The ideal candidate is energetic, motivated, and committed to providing quality care while maintaining patient dignity.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of hire
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous nursing experience in Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency or Critical Care service lines

Responsibilities

  • Use emergency triage protocol to intake, discharge or admit patients.
  • Deliver stabilizing care to emergency patients of all ages as part of the larger ER team, adapting care to changes in patient’s condition as needed.
  • Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs.
  • Document the nursing care plan and changes in the patient's condition.
  • Engage in other activities that will benefit patient outcomes, such as patient experience initiatives, mentoring, etc.
  • Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughout, and directly observes staff performance on their assigned shift.
  • Proactively matches existing resources seeking ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment.
  • Monitors productivity and assures that staffing and resources are aligned with patient care needs.
  • Communicates personnel related concerns to the Unit Manager.
  • Uses a logical, systematic approach to problems and problem-solving.
  • Facilitates Patient Experience best practices on the unit (hourly rounding, etc.)
  • Maintains Unit Professional standards.
  • Holds staff accountable for behaviors and attitudes.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information of the department.
  • Assists in audits and data collection as requested.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
  • Performs direct patient care and accepts an assigned group of patients as needed.
