About The Position

The 23-bed Emergency Department of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway is equipped to treat critical and life-threatening conditions in patients of all ages. The department has the additional support of Baylor Scott & White's multidisciplinary team, providing access to specialists in a full range of care, ensuring you receive quality medical care during the times you need it most. The facility is a Level IV trauma center that practices as a Level III due to its neurosurgery capabilities and maintains a 24/7 neurosurgeon. The department is equipped to handle STEMI (ST-Segment elevation myocardial infarction) cases, has a Resuscitation Center of Excellence, and is CalmerKids Certified for pediatric patient experience. Specialty physicians are on call 24 hours a day for various surgical and medical needs, and patients have 24-hour access to laboratory, X-ray, and surgical services.

Requirements

• Graduated from an Accredited Program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
• RN license.
• BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
• Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
• Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
• Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
• Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
• Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
• Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
• Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
• Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

• Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
• Conduct patient assessments and recognize health issues.
• Create and implement care plans, assessing patient responses and adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
• Secure patient travel and understand patient needs in healthcare.
• Help patients and prevent issues.
• Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
• Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
• Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members on healthcare choices.
• Assess and document learning needs regularly.
• Work with colleagues and the community to create care plans.
• Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
• Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
• Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
• Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
• Contribute to peers' development and show commitment to community service.
