The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. This role involves planning, assessing, directing, implementing, and providing quality patient care for assigned patients, including modifying nursing care, medication administration, and discharge planning. The nurse will provide education tailored to individual patient needs using the nursing process and in accordance with policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include monitoring changes in patient condition, recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs, and intervening as necessary. The role also involves performing complete data collection from patient complaints and history, collaborating with patients on treatment plan goals, and discharging patients with a written plan. Encouraging family participation and delivering nursing care, including assessment and planning of education for knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge, are crucial. Accurate documentation in medical records, on forms, and in the computer, meeting all standards, policies, and procedures, is required. The nurse will deliver quality care using multi-disciplinary team strategies, minimizing risks of infection, harm, or injury, and maintaining accurate reports and records. Directing care with consideration for age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history is essential. The role requires maintaining good rapport and cooperative working relationships with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors. Anticipating deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate action, as well as modifying patient treatment plans based on responses and conditions, are key duties. Collaboration with patient care team members on the patient care plan, including consistent use of hand-off communication, is expected. The nurse will also conduct and coordinate patient care and transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable, and perform additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.
