The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Device Clinic provides specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias and implantable cardiac devices within the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute’s outpatient department. Serving both ambulatory and inpatient populations, the RN partners closely with electrophysiologists and interdisciplinary team members to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. In this advanced practice environment, the RN performs interrogation, interpretation, and programming of a variety of implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices, subcutaneous ICDs (S-ICDs), and implantable loop recorders. The role requires strong clinical judgment and critical thinking to assess device function, monitor patient status, and promptly communicate urgent or abnormal findings to providers. Through collaboration, technical expertise, and evidence-based practice, the EP/Cardiac Device Lab RN plays a vital role in optimizing patient outcomes and supporting the continuum of cardiovascular care. A caregiver in this position works 7:30am – 6:00pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must obtain with six months of employment)
  • One year of recent experience as an RN

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of recent cardiac RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Perform telephone triage and call rotations.
  • Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.
  • Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.
  • Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.
  • Educate patients and families.
  • Cover other nursing roles in the department.
