About The Position

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. Additionally, the nurse educator provides support to all Decatur Morgan Hospital Nursing Services employees by identifying needs for education, preparing and presenting education activities and evaluating the effectiveness of Nursing Resources activities and outcomes. Serves as a resource to all Nursing Services staff.

  • Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion in addition to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division abilities.
  • Reading: Read scientific and technical journals, abstracts, and financial reports. Records data via paper and electronic means.
  • Speaking: Communicates verbally using effective voice tone, diction and medical terminology.
  • Data: Gathers, complies and classifies information about patients and other people. Analyzes and interprets data to carry out operational functions of the hospital.
  • People: Speaking, hearing, talking with people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving directions to staff, patients, families and/or visitors.
  • Things: Manual dexterity: Use of body members or special devices to work, and perform functions pertinent to accomplishment of job assignment.
  • Possesses a nursing license in good standing in the State of Alabama
  • Minimum of five years hospital clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess learning needs, plan, implement, and evaluate programs for staff development
  • Analyze practice and standards to identify gaps and design educational initiatives to improve care
  • Identifies educational needs and coordinates unit-based educational activities.
  • Facilitates staff competency assessment ongoing and at a minimum, annually, to include but is not limited to BLS renewal, annual clinical competencies, and MOAB training
  • Responsibly and accurately document education activities meeting hospital policy and accreditation processes
  • Assist Human Resources in the recruitment and retention efforts for nursing
  • Consistently apply principles of leadership in all inter-personal relationships
  • Support hospital wide activities
  • Maintains a working relationship with the local schools of nursing; serves as a liaison for planning learning opportunities for students. Oversees the shadowing program, clinical rotations, and preceptorships.
  • Participate in hospital committees
  • Coordinate, plan, and teach new employees through an organized orientation program.
  • Other duties as assigned
