This rural healthcare facility serves a close-knit community with a broad range of patient needs, requiring flexibility and adaptability from clinical staff. Due to lower patient volumes but higher variability in acuity, nursing staff are cross-trained to work in both the Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) unit and the Emergency Department (ED). In this setting, nurses must be prepared to transition quickly between providing ongoing inpatient care and acute, emergent interventions. Responsibilities may include managing chronic conditions on the Med-Surg unit, stabilizing emergency patients, assisting with trauma or urgent cares, and coordinating transfers to higher levels of care when necessary. Our Emergency Department (ED) is a 4-bed unit that cares for patients of all ages with conditions ranging from minor to critical. Sanford Jackson is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready facility and a Level 4 Trauma. During a typical day, our ED treats approximately 8-10 patients. Our unit is staffed with a provider on-call 24/7. Nursing staff collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient-centered care. We serve a diverse patient population and our staff provide compassionate care as they help patients with their emergent needs. This position consists of rotating Days/Nights with every 3rd weekend and every 3rd holiday. This position offers 12 hour shifts working in the Emergency Department, while also assisting in Med-Surg.
