Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. This role involves utilizing standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to enhance the quality of care and quality of life for patients, families, and significant others. The position requires systematic evaluation of nursing practice, effective relationship building, and serving as an advocate for patients and their families. The nurse will develop and implement care plans using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, intervention, and evaluation. This includes considering various dimensions of patient responses to health problems and demonstrating knowledge of the impact of illness on a patient's physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure status. Leadership skills are utilized through collaboration with patients, families, and interprofessional teams in decision-making and care delivery. Effective communication is essential for collaborative decision-making that is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, humane, and economically responsible. Patient and family education regarding health promotion, maintenance, restoration, and comfort is a key responsibility. The role also involves fostering a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model. Nursing care must be delivered based on evidence-based practice, scientific knowledge, and patient's age-specific and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service. The position requires a constant state of alertness and safe practice, with the possibility of performing point-of-care testing. Other duties as assigned.
