The Controlled Access Unit patient population includes those in custody or incarcerated. This role involves caring for general medical surgical patients, pre-op and post-op patients, and patients who are shackled to the bed (1 leg). A minimum of 1 guard per patient is required 24/7, and patients are always accompanied by 1 deputy for any patient interactions. The unit is described as a safe place to work, with a 24/7 available lieutenant on site, plus a captain and major on day shift.
