The RN Clinical Supervisor role directs and provides professional nursing care to patients through the process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position also coordinates the daily clinical and operational components of the unit. The 6A Stepdown Unit at Allegheny General is a 30-bed unit specializing in the care of ICU stepdown patients and complex medical cases. It serves as a receiving unit for patients stepping down from MICU, and also admits patients from the Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and smaller ICUs requiring a higher level of care for stabilization. The unit frequently cares for patients with respiratory issues, drug and alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, altered mental status, sepsis, and congestive heart failure (CHF). Nurses manage a high-acuity patient population requiring frequent blood product administration, intravenous access, and close monitoring. Allegheny General Hospital is a Level I Shock Trauma Center with 5 state-of-the-art ICUs, a state-of-the-art Cancer Center, and over 550 beds.
