The RN Clinical Nurse Practice Specialist provides clinical nursing expertise in their area of nursing specialty, possessing advanced nursing skills. They assess and recommend education needs for role development, offer staff support and guidance in patient care plans, and identify professional practice needs by analyzing data. This role enhances process improvement by leading quality initiatives and implementing change, serving as a resource for evidence-based practices and regulatory standards. They evaluate new research for clinical application, establish standards of practice using evidence-based information, and evaluate the outcomes of practice changes. The specialist leads the integration and evaluation of technology to promote safety and optimal health outcomes, partners in developing evidence-based policies and procedures, and actively participates in Shared Decision-Making Councils. In education, they consult with leadership to establish annual competencies and educational needs, create and implement educational programs using evidence-based practice and adult learning theory, and develop nursing education in various formats. They respond to community learning needs, share responsibility for developing learning programs, and participate in the development and evaluation of Transition to Practice programs. Collaboration with academic nursing partners to support nursing students is also a key aspect. In leadership and mentorship, they serve as an influential leader in interprofessional learning and practice change, demonstrating critical thinking and emotional intelligence to foster innovation and clinical excellence. They mentor clinical nurse/staff nurse educators, foster a healthy work environment, and identify/participate in nursing research projects. The role involves mentoring others in research, participating in professional nursing organizations, advancing nursing practice through publications and dissemination, creating an accountable nursing care environment, and advocating for nurses to practice to the full extent of their role.
