About The Position

As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients and their families in the outpatient setting. This role involves escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and recording vital signs and medication lists, monitoring patient flow, assisting physicians with minor clinical procedures, performing EKGs, preparing patient charts, administering medications, and scheduling diagnostic tests. The position also includes administrative duties such as handling patient phone calls, managing faxes, and obtaining prior authorizations. The Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality, ensuring a safe environment, and complying with infection control policies. Additional duties include performing allergy testing and spirometry tests.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019.
1 year RN experience required (preferably in allergy/immunology).
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions.
Ability to understand, follow and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations and procedures.
Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing).
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) - If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only).

Responsibilities

Utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients and their families in the outpatient setting.

Administers medication as directed by physician and completes re-assessments.
Schedules diagnostic tests ordered by the physician as needed.
Performs various administrative duties, including answering patient phone calls, returning calls, receiving and sorting faxes, and obtaining prior authorizations.
Ensures patient's right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained.
Maintains a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
Performs allergy testing and spirometry tests.
Follows policies and procedures, accessing online manuals and references.
Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application.
Appropriately completes nursing assessment and screening.
Interprets assessment information and formulates nursing diagnosis.
Maintains problem list, medication list, and allergies list.
Completes patient care procedures correctly per policy.
Delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency.
Acts as patient advocate.
Ensures documentation is complete and correct on all encounters.
Ensures medication list is current and complete.
Provides patient and family education as needed.
Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and family.
Effectively triages phone calls and utilizes the e-mail system.
Manages time effectively and organizes/prioritizes responsibilities.
Takes meal breaks without incurring overtime.
Observes regulatory agency requirements, including National Patient Safety Goals, uses two patient identifiers, avoids unapproved abbreviations, uses procedural time out, ensures appropriate communication between providers, completes medication reconciliation, and maintains audible alarms.
Manages hazardous waste, biohazard, medication, and sharps.
Adheres to HIPPA and OSHA requirements.
Ensures JCAHO compliance, including critical values, dictated orders, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Identifies and participates in data collection and process improvements.
Participates in professional hospital/nursing activities and educational workshops.
Assists in the development or updating of patient education materials.
Accepts and completes additional duties as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
