About The Position

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Clinical Quality Data Abstractor is responsible for abstraction of quality data for professional medical societies, regulatory agencies, and other internal quality initiatives and improvement processes for both the Hospital and Medical Staff. The Clinical Quality Data Abstractor ensures that data collection is timely, complete and accurate and assists in the submission process to CMS and other registries the hospital has chosen to participate in. This position aids in collecting, analyzing and communicating data and performance to the Director of Quality, Peer Review Specialist, and members of the Medical Staff. Other responsibilities may emerge as the position develops.

Requirements

  • Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Entering, retrieving, assembling, organizing and analyzing data from diverse sources.
  • Reading, analyzing and interpreting the medical record from a clinical perspective to help identify opportunities for improvement in clinical care.
  • Performs concurrent/retrospective review of medical records based off of pre-defined metrics or indicators. Also aids in defining problems, collecting data and drawing conclusions based off review of medical records.
  • Performs data abstraction of the medical record for established performance improvement activities and committees as needed.
  • Familiar with requirements for the IQR (Inpatient Quality Reporting), OQR (Outpatient Quality Reporting), and IPFQR (Inpatient Facility Quality Reporting) programs of CMS. Familiar with submission to other data registries, including The American College of Cardiology (ACC), including Cath/PCI, ICD, LAAO and PVI registries, Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) Stroke Registry and any others in which the hospital chooses to participate in.
  • Assists with quality review for the Medical Staff in compliance with the Hospital Professional Practice Evaluation Policy, the RPA Professional Practice Evaluation Policy, and the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Serves, when assigned, as a quality representative or member of various committees.
  • Participates in other quality improvement projects and tasks as assigned by Quality Director or Inpatient Quality Manager.
  • Maintains Outlook Calendar and attends meetings as assigned. Communicates changes in availability or inability to attend meetings.
