About The Position

This is a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) position within the SCMG Scotland Physician Network Administration - Administration Operations department. The role involves various shifts and requires a valid NC or Multi-State RN License. Qualifications include current BLS, previous clinic setting experience is preferred, excellent computer skills, and strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Brings patients to the nursing station within fifteen minutes of their scheduled appointment taking vital signs (ht, wt, bp, p, resp, and temp) error free, and recording them in the proper place within the patient chart. Checks chart for allergies and places an allergy sticker on the front of the chart.
  • Obtains a brief patient history and records pertinent information in the patient record. Reads chart and passes on pertinent information to clinician (e.g., lab, x-ray results).
  • Obtains laboratory specimens as ordered in previous office notes (where applicable) after a brief history is recorded, and perform necessary testing prior to the PA/FNP/MD seeing the patient.
  • Escorts the patient to the exam room and prepares the patient for the PA/FNP/MD as exam rooms become available, having the patient undress appropriately for the exam (placing a clean gown on exam table when necessary). Provides privacy for the patient before and during exam.
  • Obtains lab specimens, performs blood draws, gives injections (according to standard procedures and practices); or performs procedures as ordered by the PA/FNP/MD, recording the said results into the patient chart in the correct place, error free. Returns chart to the front desk.
  • Identifies emergency situations and notifies the PA/FNP/MD immediately.
  • Assist PA/FNP/MD in emergencies, laceration repairs, or minor surgery, as directed.
  • Receives and screens all incoming calls (including emergency calls) dealing with medically related inquiries immediately and courteously, providing the information requested, or directs the call to the medical provider for response. (RN/LPN only)
  • Makes referral appointments for patients as directed, keeping in mind the urgency of the situation, and giving clear, concise information to the referral office. Records all referrals for inclusion in the monthly report to Administration.
  • After making the referral to patients, give clear, concise, adequate information as to the date, time, location, and preparation required. Any other information pertinent to the patient shall be furnished before the patient leaves the office.
  • Checks emergency medical supplies according to policy to ensure dates have not expired. Low quantity and expired medicines shall be replaced by the SMH Pharmacy.
  • Provides medical education to patients as directed by the PA/FNP/MD (i.e., reviews medication with patients and informs the providers of any medications that require refill prescriptions. (RN/LPN only)
  • Checks inventory weekly, keeps inventory stocked, and rotates items as new inventory items come to the office.
  • Encourages use of patient portal.
  • Keeps exam rooms neat and stocked with supplies. Daily: ensure that exam rooms are neat before the clinic opens and before a new patient is taken to the room. At the end of the day, rooms are to be checked for depleted items and stocked accordingly.
  • Prepares laboratory specimens collected daily for hospital courier pick-up by 3:00pm, or as otherwise applicable to individual center.
  • Prepare laboratory/imaging results and patient notes received from outside sources by sending to HIM for scanning purposes. Ensure that the PA/FNP/MD has reviewed, initialed, and dated them. Report any STD or communicable disease to local health department according to policy. Follow-up with patients who have abnormal lab findings.
  • Maintains proficiency in all procedures performed at the clinic, including EKGs and lab procedures. Proper quality controls and calibrations will be performed as directed by the supplier’s manuals and hospital policy and procedures.
  • Cleans the lab area daily, using disinfectant as needed, and keeps it orderly.
  • Assists in maintaining an effective patient survey process. Actively participates in performance improvement activities to enhance the quality of care and service. Performs CLIA waivered tests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 – 12 yrs; Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs; Young Adult/Adult 18 – 64 yrs; Adult/Middle-Aged 65 - 79 yrs; Geriatric 80+ yrs
