The RN Clinic Float utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. This role administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act. The RN Clinic Float performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, documenting according to standards. They develop, initiate, and execute a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy, including patient and family instruction. The role utilizes available resources to teach and support patient and family education, providing education to the appropriate level of understanding. The RN Clinic Float acts to resolve systems breakdowns, engages self and others in providing solutions, and participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, which may include shared governance. They utilize clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care. Critical thinking is used in regards to patient safety and patient experience, with appropriate escalation to the chain of command. The RN Clinic Float participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit/department practice activities and decisions, and the peer review process. They positively influence the professional and organizational environments and shared governance. Engagement in personal development and support for system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines, is expected. In Illinois, 10 hours of continued education are required for IL licensure.
