RN Charge - Registered Nurse-Charge - Medical Surgical
About The Position
This is a full-time night position for a Registered Nurse Charge on the Medical Surgical unit at UAB St. Vincent's Blount. The role involves coordinating unit staffing, providing leadership, and ensuring the implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care. The charge nurse will assign, direct, educate, and monitor nursing and support staff during their shift, contribute to performance evaluations, assess patient care needs, develop patient care assignments, and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care. They will also respond to complaints about patient care and may provide input for hiring, training, and staff development.
Requirements
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Cross accepted.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required.
- 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.
Nice To Haves
- ACLS and PALS may be required in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.
- Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
- Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
- Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
- Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
- May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.
