About The Position

7East Medical Care Unit is a 50-bed Pediatric Medical Care Unit specializing in diabetes, metabolic and GI, pulmonary illnesses, and other general medical disorders. We provide compassionate care to patients from newborns through teenagers. Our unit is dynamic and fast-paced, with a diverse patient population from around the world. We collaborate closely with multiple medical and consulting services, focusing on top-tier care with a strong sense of teamwork, respect, and support. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • 2 years Nursing experience (Required)
  • 1 year Recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting (Required)
  • Successfully complete the hospital and nursing orientation at CNMC.
  • Registered Nurse in District of Columbia

Responsibilities

  • Directs the activities of and/or participates as a member of the patient care delivery team on a shift-to-shift basis.
  • Collaborates with unit leadership in planning, managing, and evaluating unit-based clinical care.
  • Ensures continuity of care is maintained.
  • Participates in and supports Shared Leadership.
  • Contributes to CNMC’s Magnet Journey.
  • Ensures nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice.
  • Supports and participates in the Division of Nursing’s Performance Improvement process.
  • Participates in community activities.
  • Continuously performs patient/family assessments as necessary to ensure needs are met.
  • Assesses and modifies skill mix and staffing levels, using manager or clinical coordinator for complex issues.
  • Functions as a resource in planning patient discharge and all clinical issues.
  • Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to meeting patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates therapeutic communication skills by adopting techniques for specific situations.
  • Provides performance feedback to all staff in a constructive, timely manner.
  • Effectively manages conflict resolution.
  • Serves as a consumer advocate for patient/family concerns.
  • Facilitates learning opportunities for all staff.
  • Ensures that patient/family educational needs are met.
  • Speaks up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validates and verifies information needed for decision making or documentation.
  • Stops in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation.
  • Demonstrates accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication.
  • Actively promotes safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Attends carefully to important details, practicing Stop, Think, Act, and Review to self-check behavior and performance.
