About The Position

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the RN Charge Nurse is responsible for all identified nursing care behaviors within their span of control during their tour of duty and is accountable to the Charge Nurse and/or designated individual. The RN participates in the care of a defined patient population. The RN assists with data collection, formulation of plans for patient care, and participates with evaluation of outcomes of nursing actions.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
  • Must be able to perform job duties while standing, sitting, walking, bending at the waist, twisting, squatting, reaching in all directions, reaching overhead, and performing repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
  • Must also be able to climb stairs, work indoors, work outdoors in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, work in confined or cramped spaces, and perform duties from kneeling positions.
  • Required hand and motor skills include pinching, gross motor activity, firm grasping, fine manipulation, full use of both legs, lower-extremity balance and coordination, and frequent fine motor movement.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted; lift or lower 50 lbs. from the floor to 36 inches unassisted; lift 25 lbs. from 36 inches to overhead; and exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Must maintain 20/40 corrected vision in one eye or both eyes, see and recognize objects near or far, distinguish colors, determine distance and depth perception, maintain good peripheral vision, and maintain hearing acuity with correction.
  • Must be able to manage stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex-safe environment, and maintain tactile sensory function.
  • Selected positions may also require maintaining good olfactory sensory function and being physically qualified for respirator use initially and as needed.
