About The Position

As the RN, Certified Diabetic Educator, you collaborate to provide diabetes education to patients in ambulatory settings. You will assess, create care plans, and implement the education programs related to diabetes including glucose monitors, insulin pumps and closed-loop systems, ensuring patient understanding and proper usage.

Requirements

Must be able to understand directions, communicate, and respond to inquiries.
Requires effective interpersonal skills.
Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
Completes training and certifications to provide education on current treatment options and technologies; including, but not limited to insulin infusion pumps, continuous glucose monitors and professional blood glucose monitors.
Knowledge of diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy, treatment, teaching techniques, and adult learning.
Good interpersonal relationships with patients and families.
Must be a Registered Nurse (RN).
Certified Diabetes Educator eligible.
BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Certified Pump Trainer (CPT) preferred.
Experience with educating patients on nutrition for various medical conditions and diabetes management (including equipment) in a medical setting.
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).

Responsibilities

Provide diabetes education to patients in ambulatory settings.
Assess patients for diabetes education needs.
Create care plans for diabetes education.
Implement education programs related to diabetes, including glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and closed-loop systems.
Ensure patient understanding and proper usage of diabetes management tools.
Maintain competency to perform appropriate point-of-care testing, per policy.
