About The Position

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is a children's psychiatric hospital seeking experienced nurses to fill the RN II position. CCCA's mission is to serve children and adolescents by providing high-quality psychiatric diagnostic, evaluation, and treatment services in coordination with families, community services, and the professional community. The goal is to improve the lives of Virginia's youth and help them develop their fullest potential. The CCCA Nursing Department's mission is to skillfully assess children for medical and mental health concerns during acute psychiatric care. Registered Nurses are responsible for reporting accurate information to the psychiatrist, who will then direct the RNs on appropriate medication and treatment regimens for patients.

Requirements

  • Effective communication both verbal & written.
  • Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Competent with TOVA, CPR and knowledge of lab values for children & adolescents.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to meet child & adolescent needs in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts and overtime hours or shifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess children for medical and mental health concerns when admitted for acute psychiatric care.
  • Report accurate information to the psychiatrist regarding patient's condition.
  • Implement appropriate medication and treatment regimes as directed by the psychiatrist.
  • Utilize knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, and the physical, psychological, and social needs of psychiatric children and adolescents in patient care.
  • Lead educational groups.
  • Act as a resource person to communicate knowledge of the nursing process to other disciplines, community groups, and schools of nursing.
  • Walk and/or stand for up to eight (8) hours or more.
  • Bend and lift.
  • Use TOVA techniques.
  • Work scheduled shifts and overtime hours or shifts as required.
