About The Position

Our 2 CUB Unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high-acuity patients. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The 2 CUB (Cardiac Universal Bed Model) Unit cares for Cardiac and Vascular patients, including those with CHF, immediate post-op heart bypass and valves, encompassing Telemetry, PCU, ICU, and CVICU levels of care. The unit has 20 beds and utilizes skills leveling, caring for ICU Devices (Impella, IABP, CRRT, EKOS, lumbar drain). Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas, promoting the well-being of individuals, families, and communities, and is a magnet hospital with an active Unit Based Council.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of strong Cardiac RN experience in ICU or PCU
  • Graduation from an Accredited Program with a specialized field of study in nursing
  • RN license
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting in this role
  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs
  • Recognize health issues
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans
  • Adjust care plans to reach desired outcomes
  • Secure patient travel
  • Know about patient needs in healthcare
  • Help patients and prevent issues
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act
  • Delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly
  • Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth
  • Contribute to peers' development, show community service commitment
