About The Position

Ellison 8 is a cardiac surgical step down unit seeking an experienced RN for this 36-bed adult population unit. This unit cares for patients with all aspects of heart disease appropriate for surgical intervention, including common diagnoses such as coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, and congenital heart disease. Patients on Ellison 8 are recovering from heart surgery, including coronary artery bypass graft, valve replacement, Heart Transplant, and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) placement. Patient teaching is strongly emphasized with respect to cardiac risk factor modification.

Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts RN required
  • Must have at least one year of cardiac surgery nursing experience
  • Associate's Degree Nursing required
  • Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required
  • Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

  • BSN strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Interpreting the plan of medical care.
  • Assessment of patients' clinical decision-making regarding nursing care.
  • Assuring nursing care is provided in a safe and competent manner.
  • Providing individualized nursing care.
  • Evaluating nursing care for groups of patients.
