The 4th floor (4NS) is a cardiac progressive care unit with 36 beds, including 30 semi-private rooms and 3 semi-private rooms, one of which is a negative pressure room. Each patient is required to wear a telemetry monitor at all times. The unit admits hemodynamically stable adults (18+) requiring monitoring every four hours, and pediatric patients (14+) in private rooms with a guardian present. Common diagnoses include cardiac intervention, pre-CABG, arrhythmias, blood pressure abnormalities, congestive heart failure, substance abuse, and general medical patients. The unit administers medication drips such as antiarrhythmic medications, IV nitroglycerin, heparin, non-titrating dopamine, and IV inotropic (excluding levophed, neosynephrine, or labetalol). The unit does not manage ventilators or heated high-flow oxygen modalities. This is a fast-paced, high-energy environment that emphasizes teamwork, kindness, and respect. We foster a supportive yet structured atmosphere to promote team member growth and include families in patient care and decision-making.
