The 4th floor (4NS) is a cardiac progressive care unit with 36 beds, including semi-private rooms and a negative pressure room. Patients are hemodynamically stable adults (18+) requiring monitoring every four hours, and pediatric patients (14+) can be accommodated in private rooms with a guardian. Common diagnoses include cardiac intervention, pre-CABG, arrhythmias, blood pressure abnormalities, congestive heart failure, substance abuse, and general medical patients. The unit manages medication drips such as antiarrhythmic medications, IV nitroglycerin, heparin, non-titrating dopamine, and IV inotropic (excluding levophed, neosynephrine, or labetalol). The unit does not handle ventilators or heated high-flow oxygen modalities. This is a fast-paced, high-energy environment that emphasizes teamwork, kindness, and respect, providing a supportive and structured atmosphere for professional growth. Family involvement in patient care and decision-making is a key aspect of the unit's approach.
