About The Position

The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit! Our 38-bed unit cares for patients with a wide variety of heart conditions, heart and lung transplants, VADs, heart failure, and rhythm issues. This position is working 60 hours every two weeks (.75FTE) on the overnight shift (7:00pm-7:30am), working 12 hour shifts and works every third weekend. About Our Cardiac Med/Surg IMC Unit-6C Department at UMMC East Bank: We have a 38-bed capacity. Common patient populations include, but are not limited to: post-op heart and lung transplants, adult congenital heart defects, advanced pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, LVADs, sepsis, end-stage organ failure, cardiac complications, titratable cardiac drips, and cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. The nurse patient ratio is a mix of 1:2 and 1:3 on all shifts. We are a dynamic team that is focused on promoting a welcoming atmosphere filled with strong teamwork, collaboration, empathy, and compassion. We are looking for a nurse who is eager to learn new skills, has a high level of communication and critical thinking, and who is prepared for high levels of acuity.

Requirements

  • BLS required
  • MN RN license
  • AD required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or higher preferred
  • ACLS (available to become certified in this position)
  • Certification in related specialty is helpful
  • One year of current medical/surgical RN experience in a hospital setting is strongly desired

Responsibilities

  • Assessing patient needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes.
  • Developing an individualized nursing plan of care.
  • Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care.
  • Critical medication management.
  • Evaluating care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate.
  • Demonstrating the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities.
  • Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
