About The Position

The stress testing registered nurse provides safe, high-quality nursing care within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing to patients undergoing cardiac stress testing and related non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic procedures. This role is responsible for patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, education, and clinical support before, during, and after testing. The nurse works collaboratively with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, technologists, and other members of the healthcare team to promote patient safety, procedural efficiency, accurate documentation, and timely follow-up. Must have Cardiac Experience >2yrs

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • College Diploma: Nursing
  • RN>2yrs

Responsibilities

  • Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
  • Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Performs advanced nursing activities, which can include , placement of IV's, and administering coronary vasodilator drugs (Lexiscan) for stress test purposes and an adenosine antagonist to shorten the duration of increased coronary blood flow induced by the coronary vasodilator (Lexiscan)
  • Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
  • Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
  • Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
  • Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in the development of departmental standing orders.
  • Apply Holter/Event monitors.
  • Perform EKG.
  • Perform stress testing; including the monitoring and identification of changes in cardiac rhythms, vital signs, symptoms, and patient response during testing and the implementation of appropriate interventions.
  • Administers intravenous medications and fluids.
  • Collaborate with providers and diagnostic staff to respond to abnormal findings, complications, or emergency situations.
