About The Position

The SCTU nurse is proficient in providing age-appropriate care, spanning from neonates and infants to pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. They possess a deep understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, allowing them to assess patient data and interpret it to meet the unique needs of patients based on their age. The SCTU nurse delivers nursing care consistent with their licensure during intra-facility transports conducted by the SCTU Service line. This encompasses the use of ventilators, balloon pumps, multiple intravenous medication administrations, and any other necessary medical devices, treatment methods, or therapeutic procedures required by patients during transport. The SCTU nurse plays a crucial role in delivering basic life support to individuals experiencing sudden illness or injury within the designated service areas of the EMS system. They also offer mutual aid support when neighboring EMS services or transferring hospitals request assistance. The Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) plays a crucial role in delivering advanced life support to individuals experiencing sudden illness or injury within the designated service areas of the EMS system. They also offer mutual aid support when neighboring EMS services or transferring hospitals request assistance.

Requirements

  • Associates degree
  • Must be enrolled in a BSN or MSN program from an accredited school of professional nursing and graduate on or before the third employment anniversary date into a nursing position.
  • A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required, which can be obtained in one or a combination of the following areas: critical care transport, pre-hospital basic/advanced life support, critical care, and/or emergency department nursing.
  • Must possess RN-EMT or be eligible for certification within the 100-day probationary period or certified as a mobile intensive care registered nurse (MICN), as indicated by N.J.A.C. 8:41.
  • Coaching Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) within the 100-day probationary period is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Care for the Pre-hospital Provider-Advanced (PEPP-A).
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within the probationary period is required for MICN certification.
  • Incident Command 100/200/700/800 required within the 100-day probationary period.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Strong leadership and critical care management skills.
  • Experience in managing complex patients in either a critical care or emergency department setting.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology, electronic health records (EHR), and communication systems.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN graduates preferred
  • Candidates with CEN, CCRN will be preferred.
  • A background in pre-hospital care is beneficial, given the role's involvement in the New Jersey EMS system.

Responsibilities
