About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Birthing Center, operating on a Per Diem basis. The role involves utilizing the nursing process to care for patients, maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, and documenting assessments including physical, psychological, and social dimensions, as well as discharge plans. The nurse will also initiate care plans and communicate pertinent data to allied patient care providers. Responsibilities include understanding and demonstrating proficiency in the charge nurse role, utilizing Computerized Nursing Informatics, and serving as a resource person for patient care, orientation, and staff teaching. The position requires participation in unit staff meetings and mandatory educational programs, as well as identifying aspects of care for monitoring quality and appropriateness. Adherence to safety and blood/body fluid policies is essential. The nurse will assess personal learning needs, maintain documentation of professional development, and update knowledge of techniques and regulations relevant to the patient population. Participation in Nursing Committees is encouraged. The role also involves representing the hospital positively in the community and within the organization by maintaining confidentiality and marketing hospital services. Service excellence to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers is expected. Other work-related duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Ability to read, write and communicate in English
Graduate of a School of Nursing
(RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
(BLS) - Basic Life Support certification
CCHC Pharmacology Exam (pass prior to start date)
(ACLS) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within)
(De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 90 days, offered within)
(PALS) – Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within)
(FHM) - Fetal Monitor Course every 2 years
Recent OB experience within 2 years
Copy of the highest-level clinical diploma/degree and/or transcript required for those employees performing moderate complexity testing
Completion of Baby-Friendly competencies within 1 year of position
Completion of scrub training for cesarean sections within 1 year of position
Per Diem: (2) Two years previous Birthing experience required (Job Code: 6100/6101)

Responsibilities

Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.
Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory educational programs.
Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.
Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
Assesses personal learning development needs.
Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.
Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
