About The Position

The Navajo Nation is the largest Indian tribe in the United States and has the largest reservation, which encompasses more than 25,516 square miles in northern Arizona, western New Mexico, and southern Utah, with three satellite communities in central New Mexico. The NAIHS is the primary provider of inpatient, ambulatory care, preventive and community health, and environmental health services for members of the Navajo Nation and the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. This facility administers health centers and hospitals providing health care to approximately 201,583 members of the Navajo Nation.

Requirements

Must possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision – OR – possession of a bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience – OR – possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing.
Schooling must be approved by the ACEN or CCNE.
Must have active Basic Life Support (BLS).
All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
Shall have thirty-six 36) months of nursing experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in the specialty required by the contract, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer.

Responsibilities

Observe and assess the patient's clinical condition, recognizing, identifying, and interpreting serious situations and immediately deciding and taking appropriate action.
Formulate a nursing diagnosis.
Develop a plan of care for individual patients by interviewing patients and family members, reviewing the patient's health record and determining the kind of health and physical care required, including discharge planning.
Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations when physicians are not immediately available.
Operate and monitor general and specialized nursing equipment utilized in the Ambulatory Care department.
Administer therapeutic measures and medications as prescribed by the physician.
Planning, providing, and documenting the teaching of patients and families in preventive curative and rehab measures.
Recording observations and nursing interventions as well as therapeutic administered measures and the status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines.
Complete the Indian Health Service required training.
Provide proper and adequate services for patient care in accordance with the standard of nursing practices and shall be equal in quality to services normally performed for the public.
