About The Position

The Clinic Nurse in our Rural Health Clinic and Allergy Clinic will provide care to patients at our fast-paced medical clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring patient health, providing treatments, administering medications, and educating patients on health maintenance and disease prevention. Additionally, the Clinic Nurse will work closely with the medical staff to ensure quality care is provided to all patients.

Requirements

Active unencumbered Registered Nurse license with the ND Board of Nursing
Basic Life Support required
Minimum of 1 year in clinic setting preferred but we Welcome New Graduates
Knowledge of professional nursing principles, techniques, basic sciences, and of community health and welfare resources.
Ability to apply professional nursing principles, techniques, and basic sciences in homes, clinics, and the community.
Ability to carry out written and oral instructions and to exercise judgment in the application of nursing care.
Ability to work cooperatively with people and to maintain an objective attitude.
Ability to exercise tact and initiative.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Perform or assist with allergy testing according to provider orders, organizational policy, competency, and scope of practice, including skin prick testing, intradermal testing, environmental allergen testing, food allergen testing, and medication allergy testing when appropriate.
Prepare patients and supplies for testing, monitor patients during and following testing, and measure, document, and report testing results.
Provide pre-testing instructions, including medication restrictions, and post-testing education and instructions.
Administer subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy according to provider orders and established protocols, verifying correct patient, allergen extract, vial, concentration, dose, and schedule.
Review patients for illness, medication changes, previous reactions, and other factors that may affect immunotherapy administration.
Monitor patients for the required observation period following injections, assess and document local or systemic reactions, and follow established protocols for dose adjustments after missed injections or reactions.
Communicate significant reactions or concerns to the provider and educate patients regarding immunotherapy schedules, expected reactions, and symptoms requiring immediate medical attention.
Maintain accurate immunotherapy documentation and tracking.
Administer injectable biologic medications according to provider orders and organizational policy, and coordinate initiation and ongoing administration of biologic therapies.
Provide education regarding medication administration, expected effects, potential adverse reactions, and treatment schedules, and monitor patients following medication administration when required.
Assist with teaching patients or caregivers appropriate self-administration techniques when applicable, and track medication schedules and ensure patients receive appropriate follow-up.
Coordinate with pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, insurance companies, and prior authorization staff as needed.
Assist with or participate in supervised medication and food challenges according to provider direction, competency, and organizational protocols, including oral food challenges, medication challenges, and graded medication administration.
Prepare appropriate medications, foods, supplies, and emergency equipment for challenges, perform baseline patient assessment prior to challenge initiation, and administer ordered doses at designated intervals.
Perform frequent assessment and monitoring throughout the challenge, recognize and document symptoms or reactions, and immediately communicate with the provider regarding changes in patient condition.
Provide patient education and discharge instructions following completion of the challenge.
Maintain the ability to recognize signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and other serious allergic reactions.
Initiate emergency response procedures according to organizational policy and provider direction, and administer emergency medications within the RN scope of practice and according to established orders or protocols.
Maintain current BLS certification and ensure emergency medications and equipment are readily available and appropriately maintained.
Participate in emergency preparedness education and competency validation, and educate patients and caregivers regarding recognition and management of severe allergic reactions.
Provide education regarding proper use of epinephrine auto-injectors.
Assist with the management of patient flow and clinic operations.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
Support billing and insurance processes as required.
Implement emergency protocols and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
Participate in analyzing and planning coordinated nursing services in an assigned area.
Give skilled nursing care to patients requiring professional nursing service; give prescribed medications and other treatments.
Interpret care plans and demonstrate appropriate procedures to licensed vocational nurses, nursing aides, and other staff.
Participate in coordinating total clinic services in the interest of the patient.
Provide for continuity of effective patient and family care by exchanging information and cooperating with workers of other community health and welfare agencies concerned such as hospitals, schools, and industries.
Assist families in achieving healthful, safe living for all age groups by giving instructions and guidance in the basic principles relating to accident prevention, communicable disease control, nutrition, child growth and development, and physical and emotional fitness.
Aid individuals and families to accept and adjust positively to physical, mental, and social limitations.
Perform other duties as assigned specific to work area or specialty.
