RN Administrative Supervisor - Behavioral Health
About The Position
The RN Administrative Supervisor is responsible for the facilitation of a safe environment and a safe level of nursing care through coordination of interdepartmental services, patient placement, clinical support and information flow. In the absence of administrative management staff, the RN Administrative Supervisor coordinates contact with outside agencies, public relation activities, policy interpretation, disaster coordination and general problem solving. Unity is founded on a mission of trauma-informed care and destigmatizing behavioral health diagnoses. Unity nurses strive to innovate and elevate behavioral health nursing through holistic treatment of our patients. Unity nurses apply their behavioral health specialty through high-level critical thinking, individualized patient care plans, early interventions, specialized assessments, and de-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques. Unity nurses maintain their physical health skills as part of our holistic treatment including attending to physical health needs such as assessment, wound care, and phlebotomy. Our patients are highly acute and often require varied and intensive interventions to start stabilization. Our four adult units serve voluntary and involuntary patients 18 years and older. Adult unit patient capacity ranges from 17 to 25 private and shared beds. Our inpatient care goes beyond medication management. Our care includes specialized nursing care, care management, peer support services, multiple groups throughout the day, animal therapy, and garden therapy. Nursing is an essential part of the interdisciplinary treatment team that collaborates with the patient to create a journey to recovery.
Requirements
- Academic degree in nursing (BSN or MSN/MN) required; MSN/MN preferred.
- Acute clinical nursing and prior supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of clinical and nursing unit function and access to resources both administrative and organizational.
- Current applicable state RN licensure.
- Must be self-directed with strong communication skills, and a willingness to lead by example.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Positive interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Ability to cope with physical and emotional demands of a dynamic environment.
- Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
- Current applicable state RN License required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Nice To Haves
- Specialty certification preferred, and may be required for specific assignments.
Responsibilities
- Collect and correlate patient information via house-wide rounds for planning and coordination of services.
- Patient care services are planned, coordinated and delivered in coordination with patients/families and other members of the healthcare team to maximize patient outcome and use of resources.
- Act as ombudsman in listening to and attempting to resolve multifaceted concerns of patients, families, staff and physicians that occur on the assigned shift.
- Organizational values, mission and strategic goals are clearly understood and demonstrated.
- Maintenance of a positive work and growth environment for all levels of staff by supporting planned change.
- Uses interpersonal skills to give constructive feedback/criticism in a nonjudgmental, positive and confidential manner.

- Promotes cost effectiveness through identification and implementation of cost saving measures while maintaining quality.
- Promotes a clean, safe work environment and reports unsafe nursing practices and unsafe practice conditions through the appropriate channels.
- Collaborates with the on-call administrator to facilitate a safe environment in situations of divert status, disaster and emergent patient/visitor/physician-related events.
- Responds as a clinical resource person and role model for staff at both Legacy Portland Hospitals.
- Promotes community and professional visibility for LHS.
- Participates in professional organizations, educational programs and community projects.
- Supports improvement and innovation in the work place.
