About The Position

The RN Acute works in a psychiatric acute care setting at BayPointe Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, serving children, adolescents, and adults experiencing psychiatric crises. The role supports assessment and evaluation, stabilization of psychiatric symptoms, and care intended to help patients return home or transition to the least restrictive level of care. BayPointe also provides residential services for children and adolescents who cannot safely remain in a less restrictive setting, with structured, developmentally appropriate therapeutic care and family or caregiver involvement in treatment and discharge planning. Nurses complete admissions, oversee routine unit assignments, administer medication, monitor and report patients’ physical and mental status, participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, and respond to crises. The role includes patient and family education, clinical documentation, personal-care assistance, emergency response, and compliance with AltaPointe policies and professional standards. Nurses may be directed to work on any unit at EastPointe or BayPointe according to facility needs.

Requirements

Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including frequent standing, sitting, and walking; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching; lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional pushing or pulling up to 25 pounds; maintaining a strong grasp; and quickly moving to assist with restraint procedures.

Responsibilities

Complete consumer admissions, including nursing assessments, medical and nutritional screenings, medication documentation, vital signs, height and weight, physician orders, AIMS, and admission notes.
Observe consumer behavior during groups and activities, document observations, assess needs, and communicate relevant information between shifts and to the Treatment Team.
Supervise nursing care and assign routine tasks to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and Behavioral Aides/Specialists.
Administer medications according to the Six Rights of medication administration.
Educate consumers and families about medications, their uses, and potential side effects; monitor for side effects and report findings to the physician.
Communicate with physicians about consumers’ physical and mental conditions.
Participate cooperatively in multidisciplinary care and development of interdisciplinary treatment plans.
Perform venipuncture for laboratory requests, monitor results, and report abnormal findings to the physician.
Provide emergency care as needed, including CPR, MindSet, and PRN medications, according to AltaPointe policies and procedures.
Assist consumers with bathing, toileting, and other personal hygiene needs.
Work on any unit at EastPointe or BayPointe as directed based on facility needs.
Recognize crisis situations and deescalate or resolve them; assist with seclusion and restraints according to AltaPointe policies and procedures.
Apply child, adolescent, and adult competencies; adhere to professional ethics; seek clinical supervision and consultation; accept improvement suggestions and develop clinical skills.
Document promptly, accurately, clearly, concisely, and legibly according to policy, including consumer problems, treatment goals, and services provided.
Treat consumers, visitors, and coworkers courteously and respectfully; protect consumer privacy and confidentiality; respond sensitively and compassionately to individual needs.
Perform administrative and related duties as assigned, participate in Performance and Improvement activities and required committees, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Access community resources according to consumer needs and follow AltaPointe policies and procedures.
Maintain current state licensure and renewal requirements; attend required in-services and workshops.
