About The Position

University Medical Center is seeking experienced nurses for its 11 Acute Care Units. These units specialize in a wide range of patient populations and conditions, including cardiology, general medical-surgical care, neurology, oncology, surgery, trauma, and transitional recovery. The role involves providing comprehensive patient care, managing diverse diagnoses, and performing various nursing competencies such as telemetry monitoring, central line care, and wound care. The hospital emphasizes a culture of compassion, authenticity, and community care.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive cardiac monitoring and management of patients with arrhythmias, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and post-cardiac procedures.
  • Manage patients in custody or incarcerated individuals, ensuring safety and appropriate care.
  • Administer blood transfusions and blood products, radioactive iodine therapy, and provide symptom management and supportive care.
  • Care for diverse medical-surgical patients with conditions including renal needs, cardiac conditions, and complex comorbidities.
  • Manage patients under airborne, droplet, and contact precautions, including those needing IV antibiotics, fluids, or wound care.
  • Provide care for patients with Cerebral Vascular Accidents, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Seizures, Craniotomy/Craniectomy, Spinal Surgeries, and general Medical/Surgical Stroke conditions.
  • Care for observation patients with cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, and infectious conditions, with an average length of stay of 2-4 days.
  • Administer chemotherapy and blood products, and manage patients with cancer, cancer treatment-related admissions, benign hematology, and surgical oncology.
  • Provide care for general surgery, vascular/reconstruction surgery, colorectal surgery, and genitourinary surgery patients, including management of skin grafts.
  • Manage trauma patients with penetrating wounds, perforating wounds, multiple gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, falls, and fractures.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing weight loss surgery and general surgery in the Transitional Recovery Unit.
