Akron General’s 27-bed 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer and hospice patients, trains caregivers to give therapy and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days and hours. Working 48 hours per 6-week period will be required.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience
• Will consider licensed military RN experience

Nice To Haves

• (ONS) Chemo/Bio course complete within two years of employment if employed on units inpatient and/or outpatient where chemo is administered
• Internal applicants: less than two years of experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period considered with the Chief Nursing Officer approval for internal applicants
• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
• Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
