About The Position

Reporting to the Clean-Up Technical Team Leader, The (Technical Team) Assistant Team Leader will work as a specialized team with the goal of restoring the Western NC rivers to an accessible, safe, and scenic condition for paddlers, commercial outfitters, members of the public, and Landowners. This specialized team will work to directly address the remaining wood piles, log jams, and large technical items as designated by the River Clean-up Operations Director. This team will operate out of the Weaverville location but will operate all over WNC and Eastern TN with a provided vehicle.

Requirements

  • 18 Years of age or older
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining chainsaws, winches, ropes and pulleys.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Access to sturdy work clothes

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with litter clean-ups, especially in, on, and around rivers, boating experience, chainsaw and power tool use, and driving trailers are helpful skills, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Working safely and efficiently and use proper PPE, equipment, and training to perform their assigned tasks.
  • Removing trash, debris by cutting into and around log jams and log piles to access trash and debris with chainsaws and other cutting devices.
  • Using winches and other mechanical advantages to remove large items.
  • Scouting and ensuring proper disposal of garbage and debris to be removed.
  • Maintaining equipment.
  • Be committed to and responsible for maintaining safety standards.
  • Adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the River Clean-Up Coordinator.
