About The Position

The Risk Specialist II supports the Credit Union by performing compliance monitoring, risk oversight, and audit support activities to ensure adherence to Credit Union policies and applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. This position is responsible for BSA/AML compliance monitoring and reporting, regulatory compliance reviews, fraud review, branch manager outreach, due diligence support, and internal audit support functions. The Risk Specialist II works collaboratively with the Risk Manager and operational teams to identify, assess, and report risk concerns and control weaknesses, while providing exceptional internal and external member service.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a high school degree
  • 2-4 years of previous Credit Union/banking experience in a directly related area preferred.
  • 2-year college degree, completion of specialized course, or completion of extensive in-house training preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of PC applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to identify weaknesses in the auditing program and address them with management to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and articulately both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative in problem resolution.
  • Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information.
  • Ability to adapt and change processes/procedures when needed to ensure efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on Purpose: Focuses on the Credit Union's Purpose and Mission of creating financial wellness in our community through personal, everyday banking.
  • Trustworthy and Confidentiality: Reviews membership documents to ensure compliance with customer identification requirements and applicable BSA regulations, as well as branch operations adherence to all Credit Union policies and procedures. Maintains the confidentiality and integrity of all member accounts, as well as employee confidentiality. Follows all credit union policies and procedures, including policies and procedures for customer identification and all BSA requirements.
  • Focused and Strong Communication: Collaborates with internal teams to ensure compliance and assists with external outreach on fraud education in the community. Communicates audit results, deficiencies, and risk observations clearly and professionally to the Risk Manager and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Engaged and Collaborative: Works with Risk Manager and all other areas of the credit union to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Accountability: Adheres to policies, rules, and regulations, submits reports within regulatory timeframes. Monitors, reports, and analyzes fraud trends and reports them to the Risk Manager.
