As primary investment area within Goldman Sachs, we provide investment and advisory services for pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, financial advisors and individuals. The External Investing Group (XIG) is responsible for identifying, researching and selecting leading third-party investment managers. The group provides investors with advisory and investment solutions across leading private equity funds, co-investment strategies, secondaries, hedge fund managers, GP stakes, real estate managers, public equity and fixed income strategies. With over 350 professionals across 11 offices globally, XIG helps institutional and individual investors with their program design, manager diligence, portfolio construction and risk management. The Associate will support the XIG Risk & Regulatory Team in executing core regulatory, risk, and control responsibilities across XIG’s alternative investment platforms. The role is designed to help ensure regulatory obligations are met accurately and on time while reinforcing a strong risk and control culture. Working closely with the COO organization and cross‑functional partners, the Associate will contribute to scalable, well‑governed business growth. This position offers broad exposure to investment products, senior stakeholders, and enterprise risk frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Law, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in financial services, regulatory compliance, risk management, operations, audit, or a related control function
  • Ability to use AI tools and prompts to efficiently summarize regulatory requirements, analyze risk data, and support automation of control processes
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and risk data
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior stakeholders
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines
  • Proficiency with standard business tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort working with structured trackers and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of global regulatory deliverables (e.g., regulatory filings, investor and regulator inquiries, audit requests) across XIG strategies.
  • Assist with Risk & Control Self‑Assessments (RCSA), including risk identification, control documentation, issue tracking, and management attestations.
  • Maintain accurate regulatory and risk documentation, trackers, and audit‑ready records to support governance and oversight requirements.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, Operations, Controllers, and Investing teams to gather, validate, and synthesize regulatory and risk data.
  • Support new product launches, external manager onboarding, and platform integrations by assessing regulatory and risk impacts.
  • Help identify recurring issues, control gaps, or process inefficiencies and contribute to sustainable remediation and operating model improvements.
  • Prepare clear, concise materials and summaries for senior management, committees, and internal stakeholders.
