The Risk – Patient Safety Manager plans, organizes and coordinates all aspects of the hospital patient safety and risk management strategies in conjunction with Administrative Leadership. The role is accountable for risk prevention (proactive assessment and action) and mitigation (efforts to reduce loss following an occurrence).

Requirements

  • RN licensure
  • Bachelors degree required

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare in Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, screens and initiates investigation of patient incidents/occurrences reported in the incident reporting system.
  • Completes analysis and closure of events within the timeframe specified by NSH.
  • Plans, implements and oversees Patient Safety and Risk Management activities for the Hospital.
  • Provides Risk Management to facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively directs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) meetings with the appropriate involved parties, completes paperwork required for RCA, and monitors RCA action plans for outcomes.
  • Oversees and participates in proactive risk assessments
  • Responsible for professional and general liability claim management.
  • Works in conjunction with NSH Risk programs and staff to meet requirements of NSH.
  • Participates in Hospital Performance Improvement and works with hospital committees related to patient care issues.
  • Participates in the hospital grievance process as defined by Administration, following CMS and Joint Commission standards.
  • Provides analysis and support to the Grievance committee.
  • Oversees the disclosure process and communicates as needed with patients and families.
  • Prepares reports/summaries for appropriate committees related to risk management issues/activities, including an annual report on the effectiveness of the Risk Management/Patient Safety Plan.
  • Assures the Patient Safety Plan/Program is compliant with Joint Commission / CMS Standards.
  • Participates in the continuous readiness and response to surveys by maintaining and applying knowledge of new and changing accreditation, licensing and readiness programs for TJC, CMS and other regulatory bodies.
