About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Risk Management Coordinator to safeguard university operations and assets. This role involves administering risk programs, facilitating claims, supporting legal investigations, and advancing safety strategies under the supervision of the Risk Manager and training from the Risk Management and Insurance Administrator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in General business and/or insurance and risk management, or paralegal studies, from an accredited college or university.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a higher education or public-sector environment with exposure to regulatory and institutional risk protocols.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Fire Life Safety, Workers Comp. and public entity terminology and concepts.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and various risk assessment and claim management tools.
  • Strong emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to balance independent work with team collaboration.
  • Capacity to interpret insurance policies.
  • Ability to deliver presentations comfortably.
  • Ability to actively contribute to risk awareness across the institution.
  • Preferred AINS (Associate In Insurance) certificate or the ability to get certified after hire within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Administer routine property, auto, liability, and workers' compensation claims from initiation to resolution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for claims guidance and actively pursue subrogation recovery.
  • Gather critical documentation to support tort investigations, collaborating with campus partners, UNLV General Counsel, the Attorney General’s Office, and the University Police Department.
  • Manage the UNLV fleet insurance and movable equipment schedule to ensure appropriate coverage, maintain accuracy, and prevent excess premium charges.
  • Log major campus events for risk review, generate loss runs, and collaborate on risk analysis to identify mitigation strategies, key safety improvements, and training opportunities.
  • Manage credentialing verifications for the Kerkorian School of Medicine.
  • Ensure operational continuity by providing coverage during team absences.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development in risk management.
  • Execute special projects or overflow tasks as assigned.
