About The Position

Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders. The internship program includes: Challenging and impactful projects Final presentations delivered to senior executives Executive speaker series Professional development and training opportunities Networking and community events to drive engagement Intern roadshow highlighting key areas of the business

Requirements

  • Progress toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in data science, analytics, statistics, information systems, industrial engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience with Python, R, or SQL, and with a visualization tool such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Familiarity with anomaly detection, pattern recognition, or machine learning concepts — exposure is expected, expertise is not
  • Ability to translate analytical findings for a non-technical leadership audience
  • Ability to work flexible shifts (primarily days) to gain exposure to the full operation of the business
  • Intellectual curiosity - asks why the data looks the way it does, not only what it says
  • Drive for results - moves work forward with limited direction and a defined scope
  • Customer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers
  • Relationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies

Responsibilities

  • Building the analytical foundation for how Meijer identifies retail crime and fraud risk before loss occurs.
  • Profiling and joining data across platforms.
  • Defining with investigators what a credible early risk indicator actually looks like.
  • Building a working prototype that surfaces stores, markets, or offenders showing converging signals, and validating those findings against closed cases.
  • Developing the measurement framework that shows what prevented loss is worth.
  • Exposure to other activities of the function, including: Organized retail crime, fraud, and internal investigations; Asset protection technology evaluation and pilot governance; Data privacy and governance considerations for surveillance technologies; Law enforcement and prosecutor partnership work; Remote Operations Center and alert response operations; Broader understanding of Meijer's Asset Protection organization.
