About The Position

Amentum is seeking an experienced Rigger to support a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport. Performs duties described in the Service Contract Act Service Order Rigger. May perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than the employee’s current rate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as Rigger
  • Familiarity with the applicable requirements of NAVFAC P-307
  • Rigger Certification
  • Class A Commercial Driver License
  • Forklift Operator Certification
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles rigging gear to lift and move equipment or material.
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, and ceilings with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, slings, ropes and chains to crane hook.
  • Gives directions, using hand signals or radio communications, to the crane operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure the safety of workers and the material handled.
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • Directs workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment on board and into ships.
  • Uses hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving equipment and materials.
  • Attaches loads to rigging gear to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Controls movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
  • Dismantles and stores rigging equipment after use.
  • Signals or verbally directs crane operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads on order to ensure the safety of workers and equipment.
  • Cleans, inspects, and tests rigging gear to ensure safety and reliability in accordance with industry standards and the NAVFAC P-307, WEIGHT HANDLING PROGRAM MANAGEMENT manual.
  • Tilts, dips, and turns suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and / or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Operates a forklift.
  • Operates a heavy truck.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
