About The Position

This role involves completing assigned tasks safely by adhering to all applicable safety requirements and standards. The Rigger Mechanic will recognize QA requirements, report any issues to the QA Department or supervisor, and identify processes to be accomplished at the shop, completing necessary paperwork. Communication with supervisors, customers, or designated representatives is key to coordinating job aspects and ensuring continuity. The position requires adherence to company and customer policies, regulations, and procedures.

Requirements

  • 1 ½ - 3 years of experience as a Rigger in a shipyard (for 3rd Class).
  • 2 - 4 years of experience as a Rigger in a shipyard (for 2nd Class).
  • 4 - 5 years of experience as a Rigger in a shipyard (for 1st Class).
  • Must be able to pass Drug Screening and Work Ability Screening.
  • Must be able to obtain a Government facility security pass.

Responsibilities

  • Review details of the work package such as technical information, specification items, drawings, manuals, sketches, etc.
  • Perform skilled movement and placement of large structural, mechanical, and electrical assemblies and components.
  • Erect temporary and permanent staging.
  • Perform functional and load related tests on shipboard mooring securing, and lifting components.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and seek assistance with weights over 50 pounds.
  • Adhere to applicable documents, references, and safety guidelines including, but not limited to: NAVSEA Standard Items, S. Coast Guard Standard Items, ASME Standards, COMNAV REGMIDLANTINST 11262.1 (Crane Oversight for Naval Station Norfolk and all Bases), OSHA 1926.1428 (Rigging Equipment for Material Handling), OSHA 1926.251 (Inspection of Rigging Gear), OSHA 1915.111 (Gear and Equipment for Rigging and Material Handling), OSHA 1910.184 (Material Handling and Storage).
  • Withstand environmental factors such as outside weather conditions, high precarious places, fumes and airborne particles, and very loud noise levels.
  • Regularly sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally perform other physical activities as required, such as stooping, bending, squatting, climbing (including vertical and incline ladders, masts, and kingposts), and crawling (through scuttles, manhole covers, tanks, and voids).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
