Rigger/Master Rigger

Brookhaven National Laboratory•Upton, NY

About The Position

Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Production Division, within the Facilities & Operations Directorate, is seeking a Rigger/Master Rigger for its Rigging Services work group. The role provides rigging support for Laboratory building systems, operations, and programmatic needs. The position may be filled at the Rigger (LG7) or Master Rigger (LG10) level, based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and certifications. The successful candidate performs rigging operations to relocate, lift, hoist, and position heavy machinery and equipment. Work includes determining load characteristics, selecting and attaching rigging equipment, directing lifting operations, and moving loads safely through confined spaces or around obstacles. Equipment used may include cranes, forklifts, chain falls, pallet jacks, vault jacks, air mats, and other specialized equipment. The role also involves inspecting, maintaining, documenting, and storing rigging equipment and completing work orders and lift-related records. Candidates hired at the LG7 level must complete the required Master Rigger training, assessments, and certification within 12 months of hire as a condition of continued employment. Meeting certification requirements makes an employee eligible for consideration for LG10 progression but does not guarantee advancement. Candidates who already hold the required certification and meet LG10 qualifications may be considered for placement at that level upon hire. The position reports to the Multi-Trade Supervisor. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicable drug testing. The successful applicant must join IBEW Local 2230 and maintain membership within 30 days of the start date. Employees must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential. Starting pay rates are $43.37 per hour for Rigger (LG7) and $48.47 per hour for Master Rigger (LG10), subject to verification of current rates. Brookhaven National Laboratory states that it offers a comprehensive employee benefits program; specific benefits are not listed in the posting.
