Requirements

  • Basic math and geometry knowledge
  • Attaching rigging to a load based upon a pre-planned method
  • Estimate the weight and center-of-gravity of a load
  • Identify suitable rigging points and hardware for the load to be handled
  • Select the rated rigging components based on its anticipated tension
  • Analyze and understand the effects of angles on rigging components
  • Understand load handling equipment dynamics and the associated hazards
  • Understand the care, use, inspection, and operation of equipment common to bull rigging activities, such as, but not limited to, winches, rigging blocks, hand chain hoists, lever hoists, jacks, and industrial rollers
  • Rigger 1 certified
  • Ability to work effectively with all personality types
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Self-directed and can work independently
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Rigger 2 certified
  • Stick (Arc) welding
  • Lock-out – Tag-out
  • Lift Director qualified
  • Chauffeur/CDL-A license

Responsibilities

  • Follow instructions from foreman and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
  • Ability to lead and train apprentices
  • Support and work in tandem with team members on various small/large projects
  • Move loads and equipment according to rigging plan with appropriate rigging equipment
  • Select appropriate rigging components and develop basic rigging procedures for general load handling activities
  • Read and interpret design layouts, blueprints, and lift plans
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Keep the job site clean and well-organized
  • Handle the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment
  • Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards
