About The Position

Performs tuning and testing of traveling wave tubes (TWTs) used in space applications. Assignments may include performing final product testing using RF sweepers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, waveguides and waveguide couplers, coaxial cables, high voltage power supplies up to 80 kV, thermal vacuum chambers, and vibration fixtures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate’s degree in electronic technology or other relevant field (or equivalent military schooling), preferably with supplemental coursework in microwave theory, OR additional equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience testing electronic devices, preferably including experience testing microwave devices or RF amplifier units.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the microwave component industry and experience in a space or flight qualified manufacturing environment

  • Must be able to read and understand detailed work instructions
  • Ability to tune RF devices. Filters, lumped element, Combine, multiplexers, etc.
  • Working knowledge of radio electronics
  • Working knowledge of network analysis and a familiarity with devices such as the PNA’s, 8720 or 8753 (to name a few).
  • Working knowledge of various microwave test equipment, i.e., Strip Chart Recorders, Power Meters, etc.
  • Possess technical skills and abilities to work in a team environment with minimal amount of supervisor instruction or direction.
  • Ability to work under a microscope for extended periods of time
  • 20/20 eyesight (corrected) and good hand-eye coordination are necessary, along with the ability to work with small parts and hand tools under a microscope for extended periods of time.

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (e.g. Green Card holder), or a protected individual as defined by the International Traffic in Arm Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities

  • Setup, alignment tuning and testing of passive R.F. filter and multiplexing devices for space, military, and other hi-reliability applications.
  • Setup and operation of acceptance and qualification testing in strict compliance with established test procedures.
  • Interpret electrical tuning instruction, acceptance test procedures.
  • Prepare test data packages in accordance with established procedures as well as the accurate and timely processing of manufacturing records.
  • Work with Engineering, Quality Control, Manufacturing, vendor and customer representatives during definition, buildup, testing, and acceptance operations.
  • Perform functional check out and operational/component testing of electrical/electronic, electro-mechanical, electro-optical, mechanical systems, electronic, RF, and ground support equipment installations including the operation, and maintenance of associated support equipment.
  • Perform fault isolation of complex electrical circuitry.
  • Analyze test and rejection history to identify problems and develop corrective action.
  • Work from engineering drawings, schematics, work orders, technical documents and formal direction.
  • May be required to perform duties in and around ordnance and other hazardous materials while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Must continuously meet/exceed production schedules and deadlines according to quality standards.
  • Maintain logs, paperwork, and forms accurately consistent with company policy and practices.
  • Must work scheduled shifts as requested or permitted by Collective Bargaining Agreement; regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Proficient in building part numbers/processes of medium complexity as determined by the department leadership. Must be proficient at continuously and without errors meeting or exceeding standard build times, minimum quality requirements as defined by Operations/Quality management teams.
  • Must be able to train other operators on different part numbers/processes within defined timeline as set by supervisor or manager. Trainee must be fully proficient (meet or exceed the standard HPU or better). Ability to assist in other training as needed.
  • Must be certified as required within 150 days of acceptance of this position or ability to perform processes categorized as medium to high complexity as determined by supervisor or manager.
