RF Network Engineer

Booz Allen Hamilton•Usa, MD

About The Position

The RF Network Engineer supports development of architectural blueprints for new networks and enhancements to production networks. The role applies advanced skills, extensive technical expertise, and full industry knowledge to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. The engineer works without considerable direction and mentors and supervises team members. The position involves evaluating RF and network performance, capturing and analyzing real-time radio network data, designing and conducting complex test methodologies and events, identifying test anomalies and root causes, and presenting test findings and their implications. Testing may take place in a laboratory or field-based risk-reduction setting.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience with RF communications, software-defined radios, and test equipment.
  • Experience using RF and network measurement tools and hardware, such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, or channel emulators.
  • Experience evaluating data-layer and network-layer performance metrics, network transport protocols, and optimization.
  • Experience capturing, monitoring, and analyzing real-time radio network data, and using traffic-generation tools and automated scripts.
  • Knowledge of RF fundamentals, antenna theory, link margins, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and spectrum use and management.
  • Knowledge of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) tactical mesh radios and network systems, including systems from vendors such as Silvus, Persistent Systems, Marconi, Rajant, L3Harris, or Qualcomm.
  • Ability to conceptualize requirements, design and draft test methodologies, define measurable parameters, and conduct complex test events.
  • Ability to parse data, identify test anomalies, replicate and isolate root causes of test failures, and provide engineered solutions.
  • Ability to explain test findings and their implications in written and verbal presentations.
  • Secret clearance; selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to translate complex ideas and information into clear, concise, and easily understandable messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
