The role contributes to a multidisciplinary effort to develop high-performance wireless digital communication systems from antenna to protocol level, and is responsible for designing, implementing, and verifying electrical hardware for satellite and ground communication systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of research and/or industry experience in RF/microwave circuit design; internships and co-ops may count.
  • At least 1 year of experience using a 3D electromagnetic simulation tool such as CST, HFSS, FEKO, SEMCAD, EMPro, TICRA, or XFDTD.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering with an emphasis in RF/microwave circuits or electromagnetic theory, or at least 2 years of industry experience.
  • Experience designing linear and nonlinear circuits, such as power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, mixers, filters, and PLLs.
  • Thorough understanding of RF passive components.
  • Familiarity with radio test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generators, and network analyzers.
  • Experience characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies.
  • Knowledge of digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single- and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK, and QAM.
  • RF/microwave design experience using ADS, HFSS, AWR, or similar tools.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic propagation and antenna systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture and layout using Altium Designer or another PCB design tool.
  • Experience using Matlab, Python, C++, or equivalent tools to model and analyze RF systems.
  • Python and/or LabVIEW programming experience for test automation.
  • Knowledge of digital communication theory, especially bit error rate and system noise figure.
  • RF/microwave design experience in the Ku, Ka, V, and E-band frequency ranges.

Responsibilities

  • Simulate and model communication systems.
  • Work with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, modem/DSP engineers, and ASIC engineers to partition functions between hardware and software domains.
  • Assess the feasibility of designs to support architectural definition.
  • Derive top-level specifications for RF links and RF and antenna subsystems.
  • Characterize and analyze system performance.
  • Provide technical support to regulatory, coordination, and market access teams.

Benefits

  • Potential eligibility for long-term incentives in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards.
  • Potential discretionary bonuses.
  • Ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
