About The Position

This role focuses on developing and executing a nonpartisan direct voter outreach strategy, primarily utilizing VAN (Voter Activation Network). The contractor will collaborate with grassroots volunteers and coalition leads to create a voter contact plan for the summer and early fall of 2026, incorporating activities like phone banking, text banking, direct mailers, and canvassing. A key aspect of this role is ensuring all outreach activities adhere to nonpartisan guidelines, data privacy standards, and VAN usage policies, while maintaining responsible data stewardship. The contractor will also be responsible for building targeted lists, drafting outreach strategies and materials, supporting the execution of outreach activities, and ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities. Data input and maintenance in VAN and other project management databases are crucial. Additionally, the role involves engaging and supporting local organizers by collaborating with coalition leaders, assisting in volunteer recruitment and training, and participating in regular meetings. Finally, the contractor will be responsible for tracking and reporting on key program metrics, sharing updates on implementation, and contributing to a post-election analysis of the VAN pilot program.

Requirements

  • Experience with VAN, MiniVAN, Mobilize and the related activities – phone banking (traditional and auto dialers), text banking, mail campaigns, and canvassing – is required.
  • Experience with GOTV campaigns in Texas and Georgia.
  • Experience with nonpartisan voter outreach and messaging.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience working in and with the disability community.
  • Strong commitment to disability justice, intersectionality, and social equity.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to maintain records.
  • Strong communication skills across multiple audiences and mediums.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; engage in collaborative brainstorming, facilitate collaborative decision making.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years experience, or 2 campaign cycles, with VAN, MiniVAN, Mobilize and related activities is preferred.
  • Optional: Travel to Georgia or Texas to support in-person canvassing or voter outreach events may be possible. Trips will not exceed 5 days, with no more than 2 trips during the contract period. All expenses related to travel will be covered by AAPD. If a candidate is unwilling or unable to travel for in-person support, they can still be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a direct voter contact plan for the summer and early fall of 2026 utilizing activities such as phone banking, text banking, direct mailers, and canvassing.
  • Ensure all voter outreach activities comply with nonpartisan guidelines, data privacy standards, and VAN usage policies; maintain responsible data stewardship practices.
  • Build lists using available data and models to ensure reach of target audiences.
  • Draft and implement outreach strategies, scripts, targeting plans, and reusable templates (e.g., scripts, training materials, outreach workflows) in coordination with AAPD staff and coalition leadership.
  • Support the execution of voter outreach activities, including participating in actions like phone banking or canvassing.
  • Ensure all outreach materials and volunteer engagement practices are accessible to people with disabilities.
  • Input and maintain accurate and secure data in VAN and through other AAPD project management databases (Monday.com, Google Drive).
  • Maintain clear record of strategies, plans, and materials created through this work.
  • Collaborate with coalition leaders as partners in decision-making, respecting their state expertise while providing guidance on VAN strategy and implementation.
  • Support coalition leads in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, including sharing and adapting reusable templates and tools.
  • Participate in regular check-ins and project meetings with AAPD staff and REV UP coalitions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with coalition leads, members, and volunteers.
  • Track and report on key metrics such as voter contacts, volunteer engagement, and VAN adoption to assess program effectiveness.
  • Regularly share updates on program implementation.
  • After Election Day, contribute to a report/analysis on the VAN pilot program to inform future use of the tool by AAPD’s REV UP coalitions, including recommendations for reusable workplans, templates and resources.
