About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous operation of AWS data centers and their associated equipment. The team is seeking talented individuals to tackle challenging problems in upgrading and supporting Amazon-owned data centers. The Amazon Commissioning team (ACx) evaluates and manages construction quality against engineering designs to meet customer requirements. The Commissioning Engineer (CxE) supports vendors, contractors, and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various critical systems within data centers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure in existing Data Centers.
  • Review design documents and equipment submittals.
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT).
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Resolve technical issues and address schedule impacts and coordination demands onsite.
  • Share lessons learned to contribute to team growth and program improvements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input into the scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
  • Audit Cx vendors’ activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Report regularly on commissioning progress and metrics to the Regional Commissioning Manager.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously to achieve key milestones and deliver data center capacity.
  • Manage project budgets as approved by Finance.
  • Coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure clear paths to resolution for issues.
  • Manage the project commissioning vendor responsible for executing functional tests, identifying issues, determining criticality, proposing solutions, and documenting findings.
  • Escalate project turnover risks to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate lessons learned to peers and participate in initiatives to improve the commissioning program.
